Be a Bear is a new, original and experimental project, whose aim is to show that we can do much with little, by taking inspiration from everyday life. He is the first in Italy to use (100%) an iPhone to compose, play, record, and mix his production, practically the mobile is his recording studio, as well as one of his musical instruments, in some songs he also used toy instruments stolen from his daughter 🙂
Be a Bear music is called “electro-bear-pop”, characterized by synthesizers and sounds of the 80s, tribal rhythms and straight case.
“Push-e-Bah” (2016 – La Fame Dischi), “Time“ EP (2017 – La Fame Dischi), “Climb Your Time” (2018 – La Fame Dischi) and “Martin Doesn’t Agree” EP (2019 – Il Piccio Records), are the key to get into the den of Be a Bear, aka Filippo Zironi, an Italian bear musically born and raised in the ska-punk band Le Braghe Corte. Today his music features electronic bases mixed with old-school rock and sounds from the nature; voice is not melody but an image, a video, an emotional editing with a clear and positive message.
His music has been chosen for some promotional campaigns:
The song “Fun” (Push-e-Bah) for MecatechFW01, a radio-controlled toy car that won the World Championship in 2016; the song “Back in the days” (Push-e-Bah) for the advertising of Roland DG; the same song is the soundtrack chosen by Millo, an Italian street artist, for the time-lapse video of his wall painting work realized in Ascoli Piceno (Italy). We caught up with Be a Bear for an interview..Â
What inspired you to get into music?
I have been making music for many years, it all started when I was 14 and I wanted at all costs to play a song by Nirvana on the guitar called “Pennyroyal tea”. Now with Be a Bear project things have changed, I am inspired by everyday life, emotions and love, meeting people and important trips.
How would you describe your music?
Electro-Bear-Pop! A music that makes you happy, dream and reflect but at the same time have fun and move your ass!
What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
When I write songs I only use my instincts, I get overwhelmed by the emotions and sensations I have at that moment. It is not a forced process. I create and record all my songs (and videos too!) with my iPhone. I know, I’m crazy! It is always in your pocket, ready to throwing down ideas and finish songs, at any time, in line at the supermarket or bus stop for example.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I’m not interested in becoming famous but I’d rather be able to live only with music. I would love to be able to compose soundtracks for some movies.
